Law Week
Educating & Inspiring Students
One of the purposes of Law Day is to educate and inspire those outside the legal profession about the importance of the judicial system in an organized and accountable society. Each year the TPCBA New & Young Lawyers Section organizes presentations by our Pierce County Judges to Tacoma middle and high school students.
In 2015, judges spoke to seventeen different Tacoma classrooms reaching over four hundred students. The classroom presentations inspired many students to examine a career in the field of law and provided a real world context to a judicial system many students are not familiar with.
In addition to organizing the classroom presentations, the Young Lawyers Section selects one lawyer and one non-lawyer to receive the annual Liberty Bell Award. The award aims to recognize those who have made significant contributions to our judicial system, with an emphasis on the annual Law Week theme.
