To see the impact of legal aid up close, join the Legal Foundation of Washington (LFW) for a visit to immigration court at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma on May 2 or June 18 from 9 to 10:30am to be followed by coffee and a debrief at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) office in Tacoma with directing attorney, Tim Warden Hertz. We hope you can join this powerful opportunity to witness the effective work of LFW’s second largest grantee, the NWIRP. Roughly 90% of people detained in this facility do not have access to an attorney so you will see people who are unrepresented as well as those who have a NWIRP attorney working for them.
Please RSVP by April 26 to Brendan@legalfoundation.org
The Pierce County Superior Court Local Rules Committee hereby submits its proposed rule changes to take effect September 1, 2019. We are soliciting input and comment from the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association.
The state Supreme Court and the WSBA are re-evaluating the structure of the WSBA in light of recent federal decisions and lawsuits in other states. Meanwhile, the Washington State Legislature is working on a bill, ESHB 1788 https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1788&Year=2019&Initiative=False which would repeal the state Bar Act https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=2.48&full=true and replace it with a structure under the state Supreme Court.
This survey seeks to determine if you have an opinion on this, and if you believe the Tacoma- Pierce County Bar Association should take a position regarding the legislation.
Please click the survey link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ESHB1788 and return it by 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3.
